This year Unicef celebrates International Girl's Day as a reminder of the most vulnerable people. According to statistics of the organization, every 10 minutes a teenager dies as a result of violence.
Millions of girls grow up in emergency settings, without the resources necessary to confront these contexts.
"Millions of girls need tools to prevent, mitigate and respond to the increasing vulnerabilities they suffer before, during and after conflicts, disasters or displacements, and we have to demand they have them," said Nazareth Mateos Aparicio, UNICEF Gender Specialist.
Mateos highlights that celebrations like these should not only attract attention, but should "mark the beginning of an effort of the whole international community so that the girls receive all the necessary attention".
