The Panamanian Justice surrendered former governor of the state of Quintana Roo Roberto Borge, accused of corruption, to its counterparts in Mexico.

The former activist of the government Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) was detained since September 21 at the headquarters of the National Police for the risk of flight, so for his extradition the Panamanian Foreign Ministry coordinated with the security unit his transfer to the naval air base.

The former governor, who had since May 31 an arrest warrant issued by the Attorney’s Office of the Republic of Mexico (PGR, prosecutor's office) for the crime of operations with illegal resources, was arrested on June 4 at the airport of Tocumen when he was about to board a flight to Paris. On September 18, the Panamanian Foreign Ministry approved the extradition of Borge and on December 15 the Government signed a resolution for his transfer to Mexico.
