The National Bar Association reported that they will deliver to President Juan Carlos Varela a list of 21 jurists who meet the conditions to hold the offices that must be appointed at the Supreme Court of Justice. The Executive will convene in the coming days to special meetings at the National Assembly to appoint those who will replace Judges Oydén Ortega and Jerónimo Mejía whose period is already expired. Likewise, the replacement of Alejandro Moncada Luna is expected. Moncada Luna is serving a five-year sentence in prison, since 2015, due to unjustified enrichment and document forgery.
The Bar Association drew up the list after receiving the candidates’ resumes between November 6 and November 20 of this year. They expect some of these jurists to be considered by the Executive. The final proposal will be submitted for discussion at the National Assembly.
