Luis Eduardo Camacho, a spokesman for former President Ricardo Martinelli, said that there is no documentary or testimonial evidence in the case file of the former president, proving his guilt.

Camacho invoked the extradition treaty signed in 1904 which establishes that to extradite a Panamanian citizen to the United States, or vice versa, there must be competent legal evidence establishing "probable cause" to believe that the person named in the extradition request committed the charged offenses. "There is no such evidence in the record," he said.

He also pronounced on the extradition request, claiming that "if he was guaranteed a fair trial in Panama, he would be in Panama ... [In Panama] we have no rule of law.
