Mexico and Panama’s diplomats held a meeting to discuss solutions to drug trafficking, extra-regional immigration and organized crime. The Pro-Tempore Presidency of Panama at the Regional Migration Conference (CRM) will help promote initiatives by the Isthmus, "to boost from this platform regional and shared approach to irregular migration flows. For this purpose, consensus and coordination will be used on regional treatment and policies to address this phenomenon in accordance with international standards and mechanisms for protecting the human rights of immigrants," reads a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Panama.
The regional issue was discussed by Director General of Foreign Policy Nicole Wong and Director General for Latin America and the Caribbean of the Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Mexico Miguel Díaz Reynoso, in Panama City. They hope to reach agreements on immigration, judicial and customs matters in the first semester of 2018.
