The Panamanian government will welcome Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China Wang Yi, after the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
The Chinese Foreign Minister will arrive in Panama on Saturday, September 16 and will be welcomed by President Juan Carlos Varela for a private audience at the Palacio de las Garzas with his delegation.
On Sunday, after the opening of the Chinese embassy in Panama, the Chinese diplomat will move to the Bolívar Palace, home of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to celebrate the First Mechanism of Political Consultations between the Republic of Panama and the People's Republic of China, which will be inaugurated by the Panamanian president and chaired subsequently by both chancellors.
The event will seek to advance the bilateral agenda of Panama and China, mainly to boost the implementation of agreements aimed at tourism exchange, commercial ties, maritime relations and diplomatic agreements.
For Panama, the Ministers of Economy and Finance, Commerce and Industry, Public Security, as well as the Tourism Authority and the Maritime Authority of Panama will participate together with Chancellor Isabel Saint Malo in said mechanism.
After the meeting, the foreign ministers will report the results of the event and then visit the Miraflores Locks to see the Panama Canal, of which China is the second most important user.
