PANAMA CITY.- Travelers departing from Panama will have to declare to the customs authorities merchandise, securities or money for more than $ 10,000 from next March 27, a measure that previously only the people who entered the country met, an official source said on Monday.

The so-called Departure Traveler Affidavit is part of the regulations required by the International Financial Action Task Force (FATF) to fight against the laundering and financing of terrorism, according to the National Customs Authority.

The international body removed Panama in February 2016 from its gray list, which contains about 15 countries or jurisdictions that do not make sufficient efforts to combat money laundering.

The customs measure, which will be launched within a week and will not affect people in transit, was first announced in August 2016.
