After Christmas the Government through the Ministry of Labor and Labor Development (Mitradel) will present the recommendations for the new minimum wage that would come into force as of January 2018. “These (recommendations) are based on four elements as are: price index, inflation, basic family food basket and economic growth, contributions raised by the parties during the negotiation,” said the Mitradel minister, Luis Ernesto Carles.

In a press release from Mitradel, Carles said: “We expect to have the decree that will govern the new minimum wage rate for the years 2018-2019 by December 26.”

The National Council of the Private Enterprise (Conep) and the Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture of Panama (Cciap) have requested that the new fixed rate has no electoral interest; they ask that it be established objectively.
