The Panama Fourth Bridge Consortium received Thursday the first payment of 67 million dollars of a total of $ 1,420 million for the construction of the Fourth Bridge over the Panama Canal.
The new infrastructure will have six lanes for vehicular traffic, three in each direction and a double lane for the passage of Line 3 of the Panama Metro.
The Executive Secretary of the Panama Metro, Roberto Roy, said that the construction of the bridge will start six months before Line 3. "The bridge has to be finished so that later the beams of the monorail are installed along the structure," he said.
According to Roy, the most optimal way to execute the works is giving an advantage to the bridge contractors who start the work first and also reduces the risks of some delay.
Currently, bids have been received for the construction of Line 3 and are analyzed by the Evaluation Commission.
Roy explained that this is a process that lasts between 50 to 60 days and the endorsement of the work will be done by the next government.
The Fourth Bridge over the Panama Canal will be of the cable-stayed type with a 75-meter gauge and a width of 51 meters.
The design was chosen as an option to ensure greater illumination and stability, which includes a main light of 510 meters and side lights that add up to 251 meters on each side.
