On Sunday, February 4, Ecuadorians held a popular consultation that included seven questions. The referendum was to decide the political fate of former President Rafael Correa and current President Lenin Moreno. A series of amendments to the Constitution and the repeal of two laws marked the questionnaire to citizens who voted in favor of "Yes". The question about disqualification due to acts of corruption was the most voted with more than 73% in favor. Another controversial question was limiting indefinite reelection which won approval with 64% of Ecuadorians.
"We must define this mandate without any delay. The days of confrontation are behind us," said Ecuador’s President Lenin Moreno, after the announcement of the results that favored his proposal. On the other hand, former President Rafael Correa told Venezuela’s Telesur channel: "The only thing that unites these people is their hatred of Correa, not even love of country".
