At noon on Monday, President Juan Carlos Varela and his US counterpart Donald Trump finally sat at a special meeting in Washington to discuss, among other things, the crisis in Venezuela and the situation in Cuba.
Shortly before 12:00 pm, Varela and the first Panamanian lady Lorena Castillo were received in the White House by the US president and his wife Melania Trump.
On the agenda are issues such as the fight against drugs, the security alliance between the two countries and matters of continental policy.
Trump praised the good state of the bilateral relationship between both countries and said that his goal is to make it "stronger."
A private meeting between leaders and the media will follow.
At the end of the meeting, Varela thanked Trump "for a productive dialogue aimed at strengthening our bilateral ties in the face of regional challenges".
