The Panamanian authorities reported today the seizure of 763 drug packages, the vast majority marijuana, and the arrest of five people, four of them Colombian citizens, in two different operations.
The Public Ministry published this Sunday on Twitter that 719 packages of marijuana and two of cocaine were found in the boat named "Que Murmuren", during a patrol of the National Aeronaval Service (Senan) in an area northeast of Isla Villa, province of Los Santos (Pacific).
According to the brief information provided so far, Senan agents intercepted the boat, described as a speedboat, finding packages with the illicit substance and that was manned by the four Colombian citizens.
Also, the Public Prosecutor's Office reported the Panamanian Border Police seized 40 packages of cocaine and 2 of marijuana in an operation in which an injured person was arrested.
In a message on Twitter, the Prosecutor said the seizure was executed by agents of the National Frontier Service (Senafront) in the province of Darién, bordering Colombia.
In addition to the illicit substances, the authorities seized "two rifles", and "a person was arrested and is still wounded," according to official information, which does not provide further details.
Panama seized at least 84.6 tons of drugs in 2017, most of them cocaine, a record number according to official data.
