First Chinese ambassador presents his credentials

China's ambassador in Panama, Wei Qiang, delivered copies of his credentials to the Panama's vice president and foreign minister, Isabel De Saint Malo, in an official ceremony in which both reiterated their interest in deepening the diplomatic ties established last June.

Panama and China formalized their diplomatic relations about 4 months ago, to the detriment of Taiwan, and both countries have opened their respective embassies, the Panamanian in Beijing on July 25 and the Chinese in the Panamanian capital on September 17.

A statement (read more) from the Panamanian Foreign Ministry on Monday mentioned that De Saint Malo reiterated the Chinese ambassador the willingness of the government of the Panamanian President, Juan Carlos Varela, to move forward with China in a relationship "based on the pillars of political dialogue, migration, cooperation judicial, tourism, maritime, logistics, regional headquarters, trade, infrastructure, investment, education and the Sustainable Development Objectives (ODS)."‌
