This Sunday the primary elections of the Democratic Revolutionary Party (PRD), the largest group of adherents in Panama, with a total of 566,604 people, are held. The members of the Torrijista party will have the responsibility of choosing their candidates for President of the Republic, deputies to the National Assembly (AN), mayors and township representatives. In total, 2,781 applications were received.
After the result of this primary electoral process, the second presidential candidate for the 2019 elections will be made known, after the victory of Rómulo Roux in the Cambio Democrático party (CD). 17 candidates seek to represent the PRD in the race for the Head of State, next year: Leonel Rodríguez, Silvio Quiñonez, Camilo Alleyne, Laurentino "Nito" Cortizo, Valentín Ramos "El Profe", Eduardo Ríos Brown, Gerardo Solís, Juan De God Caballero, Victoriano Rodríguez, Joaquín Pablo de Lora, Jerry Wilson, Ernesto Pérez Balladares "El Toro", Zulay Rodríguez, Gabriel Despaigne, Marco Nipple, Mitchell Doens and Carlos "Superman" Saldaña.
The PRD has reserved 10% of the positions to popular election for future appointment or possible alliances.
