More than 5,000 Nicaraguan pilgrims will travel to Panama in the following days, to participate in the World Youth Day (WYD) 2019, Cardinal Leopoldo Brenes informed.
The Nicaraguan Cardinal made the announcement during the III Pilgrims Meeting of WYD, held this Saturday in the Metropolitan Cathedral of Managua.
Among the pilgrims who will attend WYD 2019, from January 22 to 27 in Panama, are the 10 Episcopal Conference of Nicaragua bishops (CEN).
Nicaragua was one of the organizing countries of WYD 2019 in Panama, but last July CEN declined its commitment, due to its role as intermediaries in a dialog in Nicaragua to overcome the sociopolitical crisis that the country is experiencing, which has left hundreds of dead and tens of thousands of exiles since April.
The WYD goal is to spread Christ message "in an open and convivial environment to share and reflect together on the fundamental issues of existence," according to its organizers.
The largest, multitudinous event the Catholic Church performs in the world is the WYD.
