Panama and Tajikistan established diplomatic relations, with a view to promoting a close friendship and cooperation relationship between the two States, an official source said.

The establishment of ties was formalized with the exchange of notes between the Ambassador to the United Nations of the Government of Panama, Melitón Arrocha and the Ambassador to the Government of Tajikistan, Mahmadamin Mahmadaminov.

The opening of diplomatic ties is based on the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961 and the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations of 1963.

Relations between the two States will be based on the principles and norms of the Charter of the United Nations, international law, equality, respect for independence, national sovereignty, territorial integrity and non-interference mutually in internal affairs, reads a statement released by the Panamanian Foreign Ministry.
