PANAMA CITY.- The Chancery of Panama requested to the Department of State of The United States the detention and extradition of the ex-president Ricardo Martinelli, claimed by his country for a case of illegal telephone tapping.
The request was presented this Tuesday across the Embassy of Panama in Washington by request of the Supreme Court of Justice of Panama, which investigates Martinelli for supposedly having arranged the interception of the communications to more than 200 persons when he was a president (2009-2014.
The maximum court, which arranged in December, 2015 Martinelli's detention for the case of the illegal telephone tapping, delivered last May 26 the request of extradition to the Chancery.
"The Chancery was the channel to proceed with the request of the Court and to assure that it fulfilled with all the requirements. Now it is in hands of The United States to proceed with it," indicated the boss of Communication of the Secretary, Mónica De León. EFE
