The unicameral National Assembly (AN) of Panama reported today that the Budget Committee approved transfers of additional items and credits to five public institutions for more than 59.2 million dollars.

The funds, requested by the ministries of the Presidency and Public Works; the National Authority for Government Innovation, and the governing body of water IDAAN, are necessary to "fulfill project commitments, payments to suppliers, among other institutional matters," said a statement from the Parliament.

The Ministry of Public Works was approved a transfer of $ 34.7 million for a road project in the province of Darién, among other works, said the National Assembly.

In a public statement this Friday, the Ministry of Public Works noted that the requested amount of $ 34,795,900 corresponds to seven items allocated to more than 25 projects nationwide.

The resources are intended to "pay bonds to contractors that develop projects in execution and other projects completed," said the Minister of Public Works, Ramón Arosemena, according to the official statement.

The Ministry of the Presidency requested five transfers of items for a total of 16.3 million dollars, and was approved a 4 million-dollar item for the creation of the technological platform of the Accusatorial Criminal System (SPA).

The National Institute of Aqueducts and Sewer Institute (IDAAN) approved transfers of items for 3 million and 1,236,559 dollars "for payroll, salary scale and payment of electricity".

"Budget commissioners decreed a recess until next Monday to resume the meeting and process the rest of the institutions that requested additional transfers and credits," the parliamentary statement added without further details.
