Pope Francis became the first pilgrim to enroll for World Youth Day (WYD) to be held in Panama from January 22 to 27, 2019. With the help of two young people, the pope singed up by means of Internet. "To live with faith and enthusiasm this event of grace and fraternity, both [those] going to Panama and [those] participating in their communities," said the highest representative of the Catholic Church.

After the Pope Francis’s enrolment as a pilgrim, the registration for the WYD 2019 was opened to the rest of the people.

Pope Francis signed up after the Angelus Sunday, on February 11, where he also spoke about the World Day of the Sick, according to a Vatican News.

Registration for World Youth Day has opened

Archbishop of Panama and president of the Local Organizing Committee Monsignor José Domingo Ulloa expressed his satisfaction regarding the Pope's registration for World Youth Day, "We appreciate this gesture precisely when we are celebrating Our Lady of Lourdes. The reading of this context we are given by the Holy Father is that Mary’s message to the youths around the world is not to be afraid".

After testing the platform, the online worldwide pilgrimage registration officially begins on Monday, February 12 from 8 a.m., on the website www.panama2019.pa
