According to his lawyer Alejadro Pérez and his spokesman Luis Eduardo Camacho, the former president of Panama Ricardo Martinelli has been transferred to the Santo Tomás hospital with high blood presure, vomits and pain in the chest. His condition is critical and it is been evaluated by doctors at this time. (News in development)

This morning his lawyers visited him in  El Renacer prison and while they were there Ricardo Martinelli began to vomit, and complain of severe pains in the chest and arms.

"We have witnessed a very serious health situation for Ricardo Martinelli, who has had a severe hypertension crisis, with vomiting and pain in his arm and chest."

According to statements to the local press, Alejandro Pérez added that upon seeing the episode, the ex-ruler was seated on a chair to try to make him recover.

He said that they called the emergency medical service so that they could take care of him immediately and that they were going to wait for the medical evaluation inside El Renacer prison. And the center doctor called 911 to be transferred to the hospital for "severe hypertensive crisis with vomiting, headache and chest."

"Acting on time is important to save a life and El Renacer is very far from any hospital," said Marta Linares, wife of Ricardo Martinelli.

Ricardo Martinelli has been detained in El Renacer since June 11, after being extradited from the United States at the request of Panama to confront Panamanian justice for the alleged commission of the crimes of inviolability of secrecy and the right to privacy, to which crimes against the public administration are added in the form of embezzlement for abduction and embezzlement and against the public administration in the form of embezzlement of use, during his term (2009-2014).

While in detention Martinelli won a candidacy for the deputy position of the circuit 8-8, in the past primary of the Cambio Democrático party. At the same time, sympathizers of the ex president have initiated the collection of signatures for their free application by the Mayor of Panama in the next general elections of 2019.
