SCJ: First hearing of the Odebrecht case

The Criminal Judge #12th , Oscar Carrasquilla of the Supreme Court's of Justice of the Appealing  Chamber hearing in which three Odebrecht executives, André Rabello, Luis Eduardo Da Rocha Soares and Olivio Rodrigues Junior, will validate the confessions about the bribes paid by the construction company in Panama.

The anti-corruption prosecutors Zuleyka Moore and Aurelio Vásquez represent the Public Ministry.

Moore will present the agreements before Judge Carrasquilla who, according to Law 4 of 2017, can only deny them "due to ignorance of fundamental rights or guarantees or when there are indications of corruption or venality".

The judge said that on Wednesday afternoon, the lawyers of Rabello, Da Rocha and Rodrigues presented notes requesting to not make public their confessions based on an agreement of August 21, 2017 between the Public Prosecutor's Offices of Panama and Brazil.

At the hearing, the lawyers of the other defendants in the case - there are 62, in total - came to hear what Rabello, Da Rocha and Rodrigues Junior had to confess.Thus, in the room, sitting in the audience, were Abilio Batista Domínguez, Jair Urriola Quiróz, Marcela Araúz Quintero, Holanda Rosa Polo, Rosendo Miranda Sánchez, Carlos Eugenio Carrillo, Juan Carlos Rojas, Armando Fuentes, Manuel Bermúdez Meana and José Pablo Batista. Some are defenders of Ricardo Alberto and Luis Enrique Martinelli Linares, sons of former president Ricardo Martinelli Berrocal.

The general secretary of the Public Ministry, Rolando Rodríguez Cedeño, and anti-corruption prosecutors Tania Sterling, Vielka Broce and Ruth Morcillo also came to the room. Additionally, there were present Rómulo Bethancourt (prosecutor against Organized Crime) and Rafael Baloyes (Homicide and Feminicide prosecutor).
