UNWFPA rewards the leadership and work of the First Lady of Panama

The United Women for Peace Association (UNWFPA) presented the “Leadership 2018” award to Lorena Castillo, First Lady of Panama, in recognition of “her work and leadership in the region in the promotion of human rights and the empowerment of women,” according to an official statement.

Lorena Castillo on her trip to New York will have the opportunity to meet with the Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), António Guterres; opportunity that will serve to talk about the Zero Discrimination movement and the empowerment of women.

UNWFPA is an international organization founded in 2008 committed to creating opportunities for women through the principles of collaboration, cultural, racial and religious exchange, as well as the fight against violence towards women, developing activities that promote tolerance and empowerment of women in society, among others.

The first Panamanian lady and UNAIDS Special Ambassador for Latin America will also be the speaker at the opening of a panel as part of the 62ndsession of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), to be held within the framework of the commemoration of International Women’s Day.
