Varela appoints new ministers with criticism after resignations

After the announcement of the Supreme Court of Panama regarding the resignation of public officials with deadline on November 5 if they are going to pursue political candidacy for the next elections on 2019, this Thursday several movements were made within the executive Cabinet of the government of President Juan Carlos Varela, due to the resignation presented by several officials .

In the Ministry of Social Development (Mides) the manager Alcibiades Vásquez left his post to run for the Central American Parliament in the elections of 2019. Luis Ernesto Carles will join the presidential campaign of José Isabel Blandón and departed from the Ministry of Labor and Development Labor while in the Ministry of Public Security, there was the departure of Alexis Bethancourt. The Ministry of Presidency, also had changes with the departure of Salvador Sanchez, vice minister.

In the act of possession this Friday, President Varela appointed the managers for the empty positions, with Michelle Muschett as head of Mides with his deputy minister Cosme Moreno; Zulphy Santamaría was appointed as the new head of the Ministry of Labor and Labor Development; Jorge González assumes duties as Minister of the Presidency and at the same time, Francisco Artola, Secretary of Legal Affairs of this body, assumes as Deputy Minister; in the Ministry of Public Security, Jonattan del Rosario will be the new leader and Omar Pinzón, former director of the National Police, will be the deputy minister.

This designation of ministers has generated various criticisms among which Alvaro Alvarado, who has been using his personal twitter account for several days to point out several failures of President Juan Carlos Varela specially the exit of Bethancourt for the entry of Pinzón.
