The Ambassador of the United Kingdom in Panama Damion Andrew Potter said Monday that his government is willing to support the Panamanian Organizing Committee to carry out the Central American and Caribbean Games Panama 2022 (CCG 2022).
"We are in the position of providing support to Panama and the Organizing Committee of the Central American and Caribbean Games 2022 and thus be able to activate the planning of such games", the diplomat said at a press conference.
He added that "Panama won the right to organize these games and we are ready to help with our experience".
Potter made it clear that his government, in addition to the experience gained in the London 2012 Olympic Games, has a budget of 5,000 million dollars to support various works to the Panamanian State, “including in sport".
"We are ready to help and finance the project, if it’s necessary, it is up to 5,000 million dollars, which our government has decided is the risk we can take", he said.
Within the support plan, in addition to the monetary, Potter clarified that it can also help in logistics and preparation of Panamanian athletes and coaches "so they can shine in 2022" for this scheduled regional meeting to be held from April 22 to 8 of May.
"Within the agreement there is a preparation program for Panamanian athletes and coaches, through UK Sports, which has been the counterpart of the Panamanian Sports Institute (Pandeportes) in the United Kingdom", he said.
Potter revealed that the British government supported in large part the Organizing Committee of the Pan American Games, which will take place in Lima, Peru, from July 26 to August 11.
Luis Gaspar Crespo, who is part of the Organizing Committee of the Games, chaired by Henry Pozo, thanked the British government for its support and in turn revealed that time is the organizers' greatest enemy.
"We are in a critical period in any project, the first phase is six months, which is the development of plans and look for land, between 2020 and 2021 to execute works", he said.
"It is a good opportunity to show the world that Panama can carry out events of great magnitude", said the sports director, who at the same time reiterated that the British government's support is a relief for the committee.
