The Panamanian Soccer Federation (FEPAFUT) confirmed Gary Stempel as acting coach of the Panamanian national team for the friendly match against the United States in Arizona on January 27.
In a brief statement, the federation states that the Selection Committee, together with the three club members of the Panamanian Soccer League in charge of choosing the new national coach, agreed to temporarily hold Stempel, who had already shown his willingness to take on the match.
This decision takes away pressure from the commission in charge of seeking the new Panamanian team coach, which has committed to having its candidate before the elections of the Federation, scheduled to take place next February.
In addition, this allows Stempel to concentrate on the preparation of the plan to face the match and goes see the possible candidates summoned for the clash, which will mean the premiere of Gregg Berhalter at the head of the US team.
Under Stempel, the Panamanian soccer team has played five friendly matches, with a record of four defeats (against Venezuela, Japan, Honduras and Ecuador) and a two-goal draw in its visit to South Korea.
