Four and a half months was the duration of Julen Lopetegui's stay as coach of Real Madrid, after he was fired a few hours after the white team was beaten 5-1 by Barcelona in the Spanish soccer classic.
Even when it was not officially announced, Lopetegui had a farewell speech in Madrid's clubhouse at the Camp Nou just after the match that sealed his farewell last Sunday.
There was not a good ending for someone who did not have a good start either. Lopetegui was fired from the Spanish national team a few hours after the start of the World Cup in Russia after Madrid announced from the rooftops that he would be his coach after the FIFA World Cup final.
That marked the course of the former national coach's stay with the team, as he did not know how to inject a game philosophy that would give results, he could not find an ideal substitute for Cristiano Ronaldo nor solutions for what has ended up being a feeble defense.
Lopetegui is dismissed with a record of four wins, two draws and four defeats in the league, leaving the team in ninth place, far from the European positions.
In Champions League he is a little better, with two victories (one of them without convincing) and a defeat allowing him to share the first place of the Group G with the Rome. But we must take into account that it is not a complicated group, because CSKA Moscow and Viktoria Plzen are called to be eliminated in this round.
The place of Julen Lopetegui will be assumed by Santiago Solari provisionally, since according to the regulation of the Federation he cannot be the coach of the first team for more than 14 days.
Several names were heard to be the new coach, such as Antonio Conte and Roberto Martínez, but nothing has materialized with either of the two coaches.
