Nadal and Delpo got their tickets to the quarterfinals of the US Open

Spaniard Rafael Nadal and Argentine Juan Martin del Potro got their tickets to the quarterfinals of the US Open.

In the case of Nadal, he had the odd problem with Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili, who he beat  6-3 in the first two sets, losing the tiebreak in the third set before recovering in the fourth set 6-4 and advancing to the next round.

It was a very even match, but it was Rafael Nadal's consistency that gave him the win, with advantages in two stats: winners (31 vs 17) and break points (50% vs 33%) .

Argentine Juan Martin del Potro had it a little easier, by landsliding Borna Coric, the twentieth seed of the tournament, 6-4, 6-3 and 6-1.

The player of Tandil owned the Arthur Ashe stadium with his powerful serve and with this powerful game from the base land beat any resistance the Croatian player offered, who could not beat either his rival on the court or the Argentinian fans in the stands.

American John Isner had to dig deep in order to beat Canadian Milos Raonic in five sets 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, 3-6 and 6-2; while Austrian Dominic Thiem (9) beat South African Kevin Anderson in an emotional duel 7-5, 6-2 and 7-6.

The quarterfinal pairings will have Rafael Nadal vs Dominic Thiem, and Juan Martín del Potro will face the also toll, American John Isner in a promising game.

Serena Williams advances in women's singles

American Serena Williams continues to show the power of her game, which has led her to the quarterfinals of the US Open in women's singles.

Serena Williams beat Estonian Kaia Kanepi 6-0 in the first set, before losing the next set 6-4. However, that is how far Canepi's threat went, beacuse Williams went on to beat her 6-3 in the third set.

American Sloane Stephens had an easier path beating Belgian Elise Mertens, third seed of the tournament, by double 6-3. The eighth prequalifier, Russian Karolina Pliskova, defeated Australian Ashleigh Barty with a double 6-4, while Latvian Anastasija Sevastova surprised everyone by beating the seventh favorite, Ukrainian Elina Svitolina 6-3, 1-6 and 6-0.

In the next round Serena Williams will face Karolina Pliskova and Sloane Stephens will go against Anastasija Sevastova.
