Panama will take a delegation of 16 athletes to the III Olympic Youth Games, to be held from October 6 to 18 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the Olympic Committee of Panama (COP) reported Thursday.
The Panamanian delegation, composed of 3 women and 13 men, will compete in a total of 6 sports disciplines, said mission chief, Ivette Bourette, after the delegation was approved at the Extraordinary General Assembly of the COP.
In this Assembly, the COP chose as its flag-bearer Judo athlete Nemesis Candelo.
The disciplines where the Panamanians will look for medals will be: swimming (1 athlete), athletics (1), equestrian (1), judo (2), weightlifting (1), and indoor soccer (10).
The Olympic Youth Games of Buenos Aires 2018 is a cultural and sports event organized by the International Olympic Committee for youths aged between 15 and 18.
There will be 3,998 athletes from 206 countries, in 32 disciplines. These Games will go down in history because they are the first to have gender equality in the total number of athletes, the same number of women and men.
