Panamanian club Union Deportivo Universitario has advanced to the quarter-finals of the 2018 League with a 7-1 win on aggregate over Nicaragua's Diriangen.
Universitario, which had a commanding lead after winning the teams' Aug. 1 first leg 4-0 in Heredia, Costa Rica, recorded a 3-1 victory Tuesday night at Agustin Sanchez Stadium in La Chorrera, Panama.
Oscar Villarreal stretched Universitario's advantage to 6-0 on aggregate with goals in the fourth and 29th minutes: the first on a powerful blast well out of goalkeeper Brando Mayorga's reach and the second on a blunder by the Diriangen net minder.
Sergio Moreno scored the third goal of the night for the home side in the 77th minute after receiving a slide-rule pass from Josiel Nuñez, while Erlyng Ruiz finally got the Nicaraguan club on the board with a goal four minutes before second-half stoppage time.
Next up for Universitario in the quarter-finals will be either Salvadoran club Santa Tecla or Costa Rica's Herediano. Herediano has a 1-0 lead heading into the teams' second-leg match Wednesday night at Cuscatlan Stadium in San Salvador.
