On Saturday, Tauro F.C. was crowned champion of the 2018 Apertura tournament of the Panamanian Football League (LPF), defeating 1-2 Costa del Este F.C.
The Tauro team always endured in search of the first goal. But in the 3rd minute of the first half those plans were shattered, when Edwin Aguilar scored in own goal, putting Costa del Este ahead on the board.
With this goal, Costa del Este looked for the second goal and then managed the times, but the team led by Uruguayan Saul Maldonado did not want to miss the opportunity to tie the tables and look for that longed for star 14.
And that illusion took force in the 15th minute of the first half, when in a corner shot awarded by Jesús González, Edwin Aguilar took the opportunity to steal the ball to Edgar Góndola and define with a subtle touch with three fingers to the angle of the goal defended by the goalkeeper Eliecer Powell of Costa del Este.
With these two goals both teams started half-time presaging a second time of high intensity.
In the 51st minute, Edwin Aguilar scored the first goal of the second half, after grabbing a rebound, shot looking for the goal, which curled Powell’s right-hand post.
Six minutes later, Boris Alfaro had the ball in front of Orlando Mosquera's goal, but he threw it over the goal, drowning the cry of goal from Costa del Este.
Tauro's response came in 65th minute, when Iván Anderson, who stepped on the area alone in front of Powell, but the aim failed him throwing it over the rival’s goal.
In the 73rd minute, Jesús González received the ball from Rolando Botello, took the shot, but Eliécer Powell stopped in two stages.
In twists and turns, the second half came to an end and everything would be defined in overtime or penalties.
The first 15 minutes of overtime went without penalty or glory and everything stayed tied.
In the second extra time, Tauro came out more determined in seeking the win.
The first bell came in the 109th minute, when Justin Simmons pulled a powerful shot covered by Powell sending it to the corner.
Six minutes later it was time to celebrate. Jesús González took the ball, faced Costa del Este and shot crossed to beat Powell, score the tables 1-2 and turn on the fans who already felt that title.
What occurred in the last minutes of the second extra time were plays quite physical and that time ran out and referee Jhon Pitty blew the end and Tauro F.C. was announced as the 2018 Apertura Champion winning its 14th title in its history.
